What we understand by Samajavaragamana Lyrics:

O Lord whose princely gait is like an elephant.

O Lord who protects the lotus-like hearts of the pious people.

O Lord whose fame transcends time.

O Lord is an expert in the nectar-like music arising from the saama Veda.

O Virtuous.

O Compassionate! Protect me.

O Lord, who a lamp in the mountain that is music.

O Lord, in the Yadava clan.

O Lord, who plays the flute?

O Lord, who amuses himself by being enchanting. Protect me.

Samajavaragamana Lyrics Meaning:

Pallavi: O Bhagawan, with the majestic gait of a large elephant. O protector of the lotus-like hearts of the saintly. O Krishna, whose fame transcends time.

Anupallavi: O Expounder of the nectar-like music arising from saama Veda. Thou of great qualities and mercy. Have mercy on me.

Kaaranam: The esence of the vedas! O Light in the mountain of music, based on the seven swaras of Goddess Saraswati. Member of the Yadav clan. Player of the flute. O mysteriously attractive Lord, Krishna worshipped by Thyagaraja.

Also, If Tyagaraja describes Lord Krishna as “Samajavaragamana”, Sirivennela describes the girl and describes the seriousness and dominance of the character.

Tyagaraja’s Viewpoint of Samajavaragamana Lyrics:

An elephant always goes straight (as in chess), trampling anything in its path and throwing it aside with its trunk.

“Samajavaragamana” by Sirivennela:
Prelude: My eyes will not let go of your legs

Don’t be fooled by those looks

My dreams are like a bite for your eyes
If you sneeze, you will be red.

If my breath is swaying in the wind, it will be humming Krishna.
If you push it, how you sing, it’s the heartless tears.

Samajavaragamana Lyrics in Devanagari:

  1. This is a Samskrit phrase—सामज+वर+गणन=सामजवरगणन—used by Saint Thyagaraja in one of his kritis (hymns)  describing Bagawan Krishna, a Hindu God.
  2. Tyagaraja describes Lord Krishna’s walking style comparing it to the movement/walking of an elephant with extremely majestic bearing, magnificence, and grandeur sublimity.

The Inner Meaning of Samajavaragamana Lyrics:

“Saamaja—సామజ” means “an elephant”. This particularly means the vehicle of Lord Devendra known as ‘Airavatha’. Saint Thyagaraja compares the walking style of Lord Krishna to the ‘Airavatha’, not to an ordinary elephant.

The Elephant ‘Airavatha’ is said to have been born via ‘Saama Veda hymns. Therefore it is called “Saamaja’—That is another Puranic story.

“vara—వర” means ‘boon/gift’. Saint Thyagaraja would have meant that the walking style was gifted/given as a boon to Lord Krishna by the divine elephant ‘Airavatha’.

‘gamana—గమన” means ‘going/moving/motion’. In this context, it means ‘walking/stepping’..

To conclude Samajavaragamana Lyrics “Saamaja vara gamana—సామజ వర గమన” means “Hey Lord Krishna you walk like the “Airavatha” ( The divine elephant).

In simple Telugu phrase it is “yenugu nadakalanti gambheeramaina nadaka kalavada !—ఏనుగు నడకలాంటి గంభీరమైన నడక కలవాడా .

Samajavaragamana Lyrics Conclude.
